This TV Everywhere thing is getting interesting

There are more indications that TV Everywhere is going to mean more than just having programs available on the computer; it's going to encompass many consumer electronics platforms. Take, for instance, the announcement yesterday from Clearleap and RCDb, where a Blu-ray player can receive premium video-on-demand content. Then, look at Cablevision's Tom Rutledge (COO), who indicated that the company is already trialing IPTV applications to bring video to Web-enabled devices such as tablets, smartphones, and - presumably - connected CE devices such as TVs and Blu-ray players.

PC-on-TV: The Cable Industry's Less-is-More Mantra

I had blogged a couple of weeks ago about Cablevision's strategy of allowing subscribers to access PC content on their TVs without deploying new set-top boxes, media adapters, etc. I should also mention that another company - IPVN - also has a solution called "Send To TV."

This is a nifty idea - anything that can eliminate having to install digital media adapters is a good thing.

Solutions such as what Cablevision and IPVN resonate with consumers. In our All Eyes on Video study, we found that 35% and 27% of consumers find concepts such as watching online video at their TV and playing music stored on a home computer at the TV highly appealing, respectively.

Qwest and Cablevision and Convergence

There's interesting news today about more pay-TV provider approaches to convergence solutions.
  • Qwest has apparently made an investment in ZillionTV. ZillionTV is aiming to deliver 15,000 movies, TV shows and other video selections by the time it launches, and has distribution agreements with several studios including Walt Disney Co., 20th Century Fox Television, NBC Universal, Sony and Warner Bros.
  • Cablevision is launching a PC-to-TV solution that will allow consumers to watch online video on their TV sets.
