WebMD May Lose Its Top Ranking

Revolution Health, the second largest online health information company founded by AOL co-founder Steve Case, agreed to merge with Waterfront Media which runs third ranked Everyday Health Network. This deal estimated at $300 million creates a company that will have 24 online health properties. Benjamin Wolin, co-founder of Waterfront Media, will continue to serve as an executive and Case will become a part of Waterfront’s board in addition to continuing to run Revolution, LLC, the parent company of Revolution Health Network. With this move, the companies think they can surpass WebMD in this category.

WebMD isn’t waiting for others to catch up to it though. It announced in September its decision to acquire QualityHealth.com and its owner, Marketing Technology Solutions, Inc. This deal, estimated between $50 million and $75 million, would add QualityHealth’s 5.5 million unique monthly visitors to WebMD’s audience and expand it s brand.
